If you want to get away from it all, get away to the Goldfields-Esperance region. There's not much out there - it takes a whole square mile to support one sheep - but it's a great place for some seriously rugged off-road sport. It's hot and dry except for summer rainstorms, and there isn't a river in sight. You'll find a lot of native plants, though, and some fantastic driving both on and off trails.
This double sided map covers from Albany and the Great Australian Bight up to Kalgoorlie at 1:750,000. Turn it over and you find a Goldfields touring map at 1:500,000 that takes you from Kalgoorlie to Laverton, Leinster and Leonora. Both sides have major trails clearly marked and you also get town maps for Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance. Trails to try include the Holland Track and Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail. There are some really scenic wildflower trails, too.
Because the area's a bit empty in places it's nice to have info like where to get fuel, and this map has it. Camp sites, caravan parks and national park information is all there, too.
